Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s Je Suis La Lune is a clear and slippery silver jasmine, washed in cold water until stripped clean of all indoles. After a white glue moment at the opening –oddly reminiscent of cb i hate perfume’s In the Library– there’s a light lemony drift of magnolia, and snarlish swears there’s cinnamon.
There are more complexities in this perfume, a whole garden of ingredients you might sniff out if you focus and go hunting, but I became slightly hypnotised by the sheen of the water in the darkness instead.
There are comparisons elsewhere to Pre-Raphaelite nymphs, but, to me, it feels more like the River Taw photogram series, where Susan Derges submerged human-height sheets of light-sensitive paper in the water at night and exposed them by flash to catch the flow patterns of the river, and shadows of floating leaves and overhanging branches.
Many thanks to @beyondpale for sharing this sample with me
