I’ve not worn Fleurs de sel for months, but there was a trail of this spiky herbal chypre through the flat this morning.
It’s one of those perfumes I bought for myself–an absurd bargain at TK Maxx a few years ago, maybe when it was discontinued, or perhaps during a round of packaging redesign–but mostly got adopted by snarlish. Which is fine.
I think I like Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel more in the air, and on his skin than on my own. It brings back walks along the north Norfolk coast under high shredded clouds, out beyond the low flint houses and the dried whispering grasses on the dunes, to where you can’t quite identify the edges of the sands, sea, and sky in the endless windblown expanses.
There are a handful of perfumes I prefer in the atmosphere–even though it seems wildly indulgent to spray fine fragrances into the air, or onto fresh bed linen. But hey, if Diaghilev could spray Mitsouko on his curtains, a spritz or two of Miller Harris in the air, or Passage d’Enfer or Reve d’Ossian* on a duvet cover doesn’t seem like sacrilege, particularly when it’s to make a hotel room feel less sterile.
Are there any scents you prefer around you than on you? Or do you have dedicated room scents?
* A couple of years later, I picked up a dedicated room spray of Reve d’Ossian. It’s almost empty now (2025)
